The Middle Ages was a period of time in Europe where there was very little trade or contact with other parts of the world. Medieval maps show how little was known about other continents, and reveal how firmly rooted in religion education was. Europe transformed drastically over the 1400s and 1500s, a period of time referred to as the Renaissance. Knowledge and truth were no longer considered to stem from the Roman Catholic church but from logic and science. Maps stopped showing where the Garden of Eden was located, and began to use mathematical projections to more accurately map the earth.
